The Power of a Question: A Devotional

Open Hearts, Deeper Truth

Scripture

Matthew 22:41-46 (excerpt)

Jesus asked, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?” ... “If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?” And no one was able to answer him a word...

Reflection

There is great power in a question. When Jesus questioned the Pharisees, it wasn’t to confuse them, but to reveal a truth they were unwilling to accept. Sometimes, our inability to answer isn’t for lack of knowledge, but because the answer challenges us at a level deeper than we expect.

Questions are not just tools for silencing opposition—they are gateways to discovery, pathways that lead us to greater understanding when we have hearts open to truth. Yet, it is only by God’s grace that the truth truly takes root in us. As we journey through theology, or simply through life’s questions, let us ask God to keep our hearts and minds receptive, so that the answers we find do more than satisfy curiosity—they transform us.

Prayer

Almighty God,

Thank You for being patient as we ask, seek, and knock. Thank You for questions that draw us deeper into Your mystery. Open our hearts and minds to receive Your truth. Let it humble and change us. Where we have misunderstood You, show us Your glory anew. May our prayers reflect the fullness of who You are—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Going Deeper

This week, embrace the questions that arise in your heart—not as signs of doubt, but as invitations from the Lord to grow. Trust that every sincere question can be a step toward loving God more deeply, and seeing just how awe-inspiring and glorious our Triune God truly is.
